Karuizawa (軽井沢) 10 years, original bottling. It’s very difficult to come across Karuizawa’s original bottling. The distillery closed in 2001 and its whisky are literally antiques, let alone original bottling.
With a light amber color, it displayed very floral notes like chrysanthemum, sandalwood, fruits like peeled grapes. It shares some similarity with Hakushu (白州) 12yo.
The original store for Sushi Kanesaka (鮨かねさか) can be found in Ginza, Tokyo. It’s a much better experience when compared to Shinji by Kanesaka (review) in Singapore. Seriously, a lot better. Continue reading

Meanwhile, its Roppongi branch operated by Jiro’s second son remains more accessible for those seeking for a glimpse of the Jiro magic (think of those slow motion fish slicing shots with equally slow classical music played in the background). Pufferfish, aka Fugu in Japanese, might put some off. After all, the poisonous fish did have a dodgy history when prepared under the hands of inexperienced or unlicensed chefs – the fish’s toxins took the lives of a number who sought to try it out.
