Opera, Beijing

The Chinese market is definitely warming up to the Bombana-style. Not too long after Chef Umberto Bombana opened his glitzy Shanghai outlet – the Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA – he set his eyes on Beijing. In this latest foray of the chef known for his truffle adventures, he started Opera, a casual fine dining restaurant in the Chinese capital.

Tall ceilings are hard to come by in Hong Kong, but it is what Bombana took advantage of at Parkview Green (Fangcaodi) where Opera was set up. It’s quite a chic shopping mall near The Place – aka Shimao Tianjie.

For RMB188, the lunch menu was satisfying, but quite a distance to what I’d call amazing. For that price I’m not complaining. With such a standard for Italian food in Beijing, it’s remarkable. Great ambience great to catch up with an old friend over a casual fine dining meal.
