Gaddi’s – a celebrated fine dining restaurant in the heart of the shopping action in kowloon has strangely not found itself on the Michelin guide. Situated in the old wing of the prestigious Peninsula Hotel, it managed to preserve its look and feel of the seventies. Its dedicated elevator at the lobby comes with old school lift buttons and lighting. It’s definitely one of the very few remaining classic and well-kept restaurants in Hong Kong. Other venerable restaurants that manages to hold onto its classic interior decorations are Amigo, and Jimmy’s Kitchen. Comparatively, their food and ambience are less refined to Gaddi’s.
Not only does Gaddi’s demonstrate its classiness with its table décor, they serve quality traditional French food. I ordered the three course seasonal lunch menu – so basically the chef makes all the decisions and surprise you with his creations.
I was most happy with the main dish, I wasn’t expecing such fine cooked lobster at this price. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was absolutely fresh and simple. Just fabulous.
With such star-worthy culinary delights, one may ponder about the absence of Michelin stars here – also raising questions on the methodology behind the awarding of stars here in Hong Kong. But at the same time, who cares? Even if it’s not listed on the guide, Gaddi’s quickly became one of my favourite French restaurant in Hong Kong, just in a few bites.
