I’ve heard plenty of good things about Waku Ghin, which is why I insisted to pay them a visit even though I’m fully aware it costs more than what it’s worth. From a price point perspective, it tops the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia (the ones in Singapore) – your meal concluding with a SGD400++ bill.
You’re given two timings at Waku Ghin – either 5.30 or 8pm. The dinner commences with a presentation of the raw ingredients for the meal, food freshly imported from places like Australia, Canada, Japan, and so on.
Such a level of Japanese cuisine is hard to come across in Singapore since they serve only the very premium grade ingredients, handled by a personal chef with attentive service. A strange encounter however, the waiter asked if it’s my first time having uni (sea urchin) after finishing their signature dish – Marinated botan shrimp with sea urchin and oscietra caviar. “Is this your first time having caviar” would be a more appropriate question.
Every dish was enjoyable – cooked just right and served with care. Though this places serves good food, it doesn’t give you a mind blowing experience.
For about the same money (in fact SGD500 after tax and service), I could EASILY have a much more impressive meal in Tokyo with the freshest ingredients in Japan.
